Yesterday we went to reading, we did a treasure hunt in the Oracle Center (a shopping center). The center had very importants shops: Hollister, Disney World, Apple Store etc. We spilt into groups, and David Arboix gave us a sheet with photos that we had to complete. The winner won a very exciting and important gift (a lot of sweets) :P After the treasure hunt we went to a park and we played a football match - my team won.

Orienting in Reading

Yesterday we went to Reading and we did a treasure hunt and we saw all the city. We had a good time with the all people. The treasure hunt consisted in making a race-circuit counterclockwise around Reading. The circuit began in the park of Reading and finished at the Oracle (the Shopping Hall of Reading). At the end we won the treasure hunt "Orienting Reading".

The accommodation of this english course can be for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people.

The rooms are small but very comfortable. They have a bed, a window, a door, a ceiling, a lavatory, a wardrobe, a floor, a table, a chair, an armchair, a cupboard, etc.

They are numbered from 1 to 225 (We have rooms numbered 203, 204 and 205).

These rooms are much more preferable than the rooms in the other conveniences of the clubs.

There is an unique aggravation in some rooms, that is, that they stink a little.

Squash Championship

This week in the Oratory School are being played two squash championships: the international, against the Italians, Polish and other Spanish groups; and the national one, which consists of an induvidual Spanish ranking of only our group. To be the first in the ranking you have to win as many matches as you can against the rivals of the best level.
In the international one, we are doing very well, Mateu Borrell and Jaume Ventura qualified for the semifinals, and Ton Puig, David España, Pablo López and Domènec Melé were eliminated in the quarter finals.
Actually Ton Puig is number one in our ranking, followed by Borja Pujol and Mateu Borrell, but everything can change in the next week, most days the ranking is updated and the championship is still undecided.

One Day In The Oratory School

Every day we wake up at 7:30, then we have breakfast, where we can choose between a lot of kinds of food, for example: eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, cereal and more things. When we finish breakfast, we have a conversation about human formation. It tries to make us better persons. After that, with a lot of laziness, we go to class... :S

Classes start at 9:30 and we don't stop until 11:00, when we have a little brake of 15 minutes, and then we continue learning until 11:45. When the classes are finished, we go to the Holy Mass. By the time we have finished it, we finally go to the desired lunch. After lunch, we talk in the hall about what we're going to do in the afternoon. Then we have the last class of the day. During the afternoon, we play different kinds of sports like football, tennis, squash, golf or also we can go to the swimming pool! When we finish sport we have a shower and at 18:00 we have dinner. After that we do some English Activities and then we pray the Holy Rosary. Finally, we play a Night Game and when the game is finished it's the supper time and FINALLY we go to bed.

Do you think that it is a hard day? We live it every day and that is what makes us stronger.

The National Gallery

Yesterday, in the National Gallery we saw a lot of famous paintings, painted by Van Gogh, Velazquez, Manet, Monet, Murillo, Boticelli and Da Vinci.

The most famous painting is "The Sunflowers" and "The Night in Saint Remy", the two masterpieces painted by Vincent Van Gogh.

The National Gallery is in front of the Trafalgar Square, in that square we saw the clock of the countdown of the Olympic Games of 2012 in London.

If you go to that museum you must be carefull with one thing.

1. Maybe you will be lost, because it is very big.

Yesterday, on Wednesday July 20 we had a great time in LillyWhite's.
A store with many football jerseys, basketballs, sneakers...all at a good price.
People bought a lot of T-shirts of many football teams.

It's a store with big discounts of up to 70%.

This store has T-shirts of many sports: football, golf...

Outside LillyWhite's there were a lot of people who made magic tricks.

visit to London

Last Wednesday we went to London and we visited Covent Garden. It is a warehouse where there are a lot of things like: sweters, watches, wrist-bands... We bought a lot of things: necklace (for our sisters), sweters, t-shirts..., and after it we went to Lillywhites we visited the British museum too, and we saw many thinks, for example the most famous thing we saw was "La Piedra Roseta". It was very nice. We went to Buckhingham Palace, and it was very interesting and great. After the day we were very tired, especially Nil Bono who felt sick.

Stonehenge

One group went to Stonehenge, called Piedras Colgantes in Spanish. In Stonehenge one member of staff give spoke with us in Spanish and explained for us the history of Stonehenge. In the middle of the plain it was very windy. The stones were taken from Ireland, and the Paleolitic men transported them on the rivers and the sea. The legend explained how Lucifer moved the rocks to the place of Stonehenge.

Yesterday we went to Windsor Castle (The Queen's castle of England). It is the most beautiful castle in England. When we entered the castle we saw the security. In the castle there are very big rooms with only pictures and weapons. Queen Mary have a very big doll house .
The Queen still lives in the castle in the weekens .
After the visit to Windsor Castle we went to the beautiful garden and relaxed in the grass
After relaxing we went to McDonalds and ate a very good burger and drank one Coke.
After that we returned to the school (the Oratory school).

Yesterday Sunday we went to Salisbury, a very high and old Anglican cathedral. It has the tallest tower in the UK. Salisbury cathedral is a gothic building from the 12th century.We went by car and the weather was cloudy.We traveled for 1 hour by car. We arrived at approximately 3:00pm. We saw the interior cathedral, its gardens and its rooms. After that we took a walk around shops. Somebody went to a supermarket and bought many things (twits, polo, mentos, kit-kat etc.) for 1 pound everything. After that we ate the dinner from Oratory School "fantastic food", and then we went to Stonehenge.

In Oxford we are very learning English. In the morning we wake up at 7:30. After having a shower we go to breakfast. Then, we have a talk and the classes. Before lunch, we go to Holy Mass (Old Chapel). In the afternoon we have another class, the sport and the meditation. Then we go to the cantine for having the dinner, and after the dinner, we have the English activities, which are differrent each day. Then we have a night game, the supper and we go to sleep.

This is an ordinary day here, in the Oratory School.

On our first visit to London we saw several things, but we would most like to explain is the Imperial war museum.

In the museum we saw a lot of weapons, warplanes, war tanks and a lot of thinks very striking.

One thing which surprised us were the videos of the war in Vietnam.

Last Wednesday we went to London to visit the tower of London, it is very big, and in this tower the head of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher was cut off because they didn't recognise the King of England Henry VIII, the leader of the Church of England.

On wednesday we visited London and went a lot of places.
First we crossed the London Bridge and some of us enjoyed visiting a warship of the World War II, and also the "War Museum".
There we could see a fragment of the Berlin Wall. We went to the parliament, and saw the Big Ben, and the London Eye too. Near the Big Ben was a lot of armed police, because first minister's house was close.
We went to so many other places, such as Baker Street, the Sherlock Holmes street, or Harry Potter's train station. In the image we can see our frustration when we discovered that the Platform 9 3/4 was reserved to VIP members only.
We enjoyed it very much.

Saturday some of us went to an old-vehicles exposition in Woodcote, near our school.

Years ago, there taked place a rally race that was very famous in this region.

In our visit we saw every kind of vehicles, from old vapour cars to most modern motorbikes.

We enjoyed our visit because it is interesting to saw how people moved years ago, and also learnt better how cars work.
There were two stands where we tasted some food, as local cheese and a local curry dish. Also we saw a strange animals expositions, for example a Lama.
It was a great experience that I recommend to everybody.

When we went to visit Oxford Castle

The castle was built in 1071.
There we saw how the castle was in the Middle Ages; the prisons, the crypt...
The castle has one thousand steps, and they are very steep.
Also the castle has a prison from the times of the English Civil War, with the punishment cells and very uncomfortable bedrooms.

Some people were asking him why the games were called "Celtics Games".
In Celtics Games there are many different games, each with a a unique set of rules.It is neccessary to have some skill, strength, speed and agility. So it is advantageous to have both sporty and intelligent people within the team.
The Celtic Games are dependant upon the weather.
Often when the Celtics Games are celebrated there's rainning so you can slip and fall down making the games more fun and exciting but also very dangerous. The rain causes the grouund to change into a mud-bath and you stain yourself.There are many potentially dangerous games because there are some where you can be choked by other people and get hurt.

Fortune, money, richness, fame. These are some adjectives to Harrods: the most luxury shop of London. I advert that this text is no apt for the people wich loves the low price because in Harrods you can buy a pen for 15 pounds and the price of a statue made of glass rises to 30.000 pounds.

I know this because I have been there in a visit that I did recently to the Britain capital. I decided to pass to the shop and only walking in the sorroundings I was astonshed when I saw the big quantity of luxury cars. And its very difficult to enter alone or in groups because they don't want that the people only enter to see the things of Harrods. The 70% of the people that buys in Harrods are of Morroco or Indian nacionality. There is a list of products of Harrods:

Sofa: 7000 pounds.

Celtics games part 1

There are three parts on celtics games:

Part 1: There are 6 proof.

Proof 1: You have to carry one member of the team trough a football field. The winner is those who complete it in the fastest time.

Proof 2: You have to form a human tower with the people from the group.

Proof 3: You have to carry three people of the group over 25 meters.

Proof 4: You have to harry into the cross bar for as long as possible.

Proof 5: You have to throw a stone, and the further you throw the stone the more points you achieve. There are two types of stone, a large stone and a small one.

Proof 6:You have to carry a trunk with your team through 50 meters, passing it from one person to the next along a human chain.

Part 2: It's a relay race with bims, there are seven laps, there are two races.

Part 3:There's a game like the handkerchief but with a rugby ball. There are three teams, and a base for each one. You have to carry the ball to anyone of the bases, but if you get it in one that's not yours you win one point, and the other team lose one.

Tuesday we went to London. There we visit a lot of places, in concret we visited three places: the belfast war ship, the natural history museum and Harrod's. Harrod's is the place that we are going to explain.

It was very difficult to enter because we were a lot of people and they didn't accept numerous grups and there were a lot of security. We separeted in very small grpus so more less it was much easier to enter. We visited it only because it was very expensive, some buy a cafe or something like that.

Outside of Harrod`s there were a lot of luxury cars like buggatis, ferraris, lamborghinis and also were roll`s royce.

Sports facilities from the Oratory School

Our names are Javier and Jonás. We are 15 years old. We will talk about the sports facilities from the Oratory School.

In the Oratory School there are five football pitch, a golf pitch of nine holes, the shortest hole is 67 meters & the largest hole is 293 meters; six tennis pitch of natural grass, and four of quick; there are three squash court, one of Royal Tennis; there is one indoor court, two cricket pitch and finally one pool acclimatized.

During the Oxford English Course we are doing an international tournament league with italian people, and another one that is only for Catalonian clubs. We play tennis, football, basket and water pool.

In this part of the blog the periodists will describe the differents houses where the students live during the school periode.

The main houses of the Oratory School are FitzAlan House, Norris House, St John's House and Philip's House.

These houses are a residencial houses for students. Generally, these buildings has three floors and every floor has two type of corridors. The first corridor has twelve bedrooms and one bathroom and the second type of corridor has five bedrooms and also one bathroom. They all are a typical house of England.

Different food experiencies on Oxford English Course 2010

Narciso and Lluis are two gastronomic critics who like periodism. They studied in the Royal Academy of Cooking and Gastronomy in the Durham University.

Really, they are only two students that are having a periodism activity about British food. They like so lot the food. Narciso loves carrots, however Lluis dislikes carrots.

Two very different people to make the same work. A very interesant challenge.

Lluis:

In my opinion I feel that we eat all the day. The food is quite good and sometimes you can eat by your stomach. The meals timetables normally are two hours early. For example: if you have breakfast at 10:00 am in Spain during holidays, you have it at 8:00 am in Britain. They make very good the breakfast: eggs, bacon, toasts, fruit, juice...

The lunch is also good. But the dinner it isn't. The supper is like "la merienda" in Spain. But you have it after the dinner.

Narciso:

My opinion of the English gastronomy is that is good an adapted to their daily activities.

They mainly cook potatoes, pasta and many vegetables. They always appear in the meals.

The food doesn't have many salt.

All the Fridays they eat fish and chips.

Willesden might seem an unlikely place to find a shrine to Our Lady. In fact, when we think of shrines and pilgrimages, we tend to think of long, often expensive journeys and exotic locations like Fatima, Loreto or Guadalupe.
Yet for centuries Our Lady has been honoured at sanctuaries much closer to home. Situated in one of London’s most multicultural areas, right on the edge of Central London, the shrine of Our Lady of Willesden is a veritable ‘sign of contradiction’ and a powerful witness to the Christian Faith in the Third Millennium.

The Saints of Willesden

There can’t be many English shrines that boast two canonised saints among her devotees and, what’s more, two saints who have a particular relevance for the mission of the Church in the twenty-first century. Both were trained as lawyers and both are remembered for what they teach us about the dignity of the lay vocation:

St Thomas More:

This great scholar, Lord Chancellor and martyr had a very personal interest in Willesden: his adopted daughter, Alice, was married to a local landowner, Sir Giles Alington. Though the exact location of his house is unknown, it is clear that St Thomas was a frequent visitor. Indeed, it was in Alington’s private chapel that both Elisabeth and Cecilia More were married on 29th September 1525. St Thomas would thus have known the nearby shrine of Our Lady of Willesden. This familiarity is expressed in some of his polemical writings where he defends the practice of pilgrimages (citing Willesden as an example) against the attacks of reformers like Thomas Bilney. St Thomas’ last visit to the shrine was in 1534 (probably in early April), just before his arrest. We can imagine the saint praying for strength and perseverance at the foot of the statue. He was beheaded in 1535 and canonised by Pope Pius XI in 1935.

St Josemaria Escriva:

The Founder of Opus Dei often visited Willesden during his trips to London. On 15th August 1958 he made a private pilgrimage to the shrine, where he re-consecrated Opus Dei to the Name of Mary (as he did every year). He returned on 17th August 1962, this time with his future successor as Prelate, the Servant of God Alvaro del Portillo. They recited the Holy Rosary and bought some images of the statue to distribute to members of Opus Dei in Hampstead. St Josemaria died in 1975 and was canonised by Pope John Paul II in 2002. On 15th August 1980 Fr del Portillo returned to Willesden for the annual re-consecration and he added a medal of Our Lady of Willesden to his rosary beads. Where do we live

The building has three floors. In each one there are many bedrooms. In the first floor it is the living room with a billiar and a big television. In the second and third floor there are distributed the showers, the bedrooms, the living rooms and the wash machines.

The bedrooms are numereded from 1 to 300. The rooms don't have key to avoid problems.
There are many diferents rooms: For 4 people, 3 people, 2 people and single occupancy.

The bathrooms are shared. We have a room where we may wash the cothes whenever we want.

Always after the football match we have a hot shower to be clean for the dinner.

There are a lot of sports in the Oratory School like:

Football: The Oratory School has 6 grass football fields. They are huge.

Basketball: There are 2 courts. The baskets are reglamentary.

Cricket: The grass of this court is the most well-tended of all.

Tennis: There are 4 quick and 6 grass fields that are very carefully cutting.

Swimming pool: There is 1 pool for us. We have got a timetable for swimming: from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

Rugby: There are 2 courts of rugby. They are amazingly long.

Golf: There are 9 holes of 165 metres, more or less.

Squash: There is one court. You can get lots of balls and raquets.

Royal tennis: It is for rich kids and there is only one court

That's all about the sports of the fantastic and famous school, in which we are learning very much and having fun.
